How to disable data on HTC Touch

I’ve had huge problem trying to disable data connection on my touch while I was out of my area.

After some research I found next procedure:

I think that maybe I have some positive results regarding to this problem. I did next procedure:
1. I followed procedure from this link:

http://www.mobiletopsoft.com/board/1751/how-to-prevent-wm-5-0-and-activesync-from-draining-your-battery.html

2. After that I changed hotmail synchronization from “As items arrive” to the manual (open messaging click on menu-Option select Windows Live and as Sync schedule move to manual.
3. Start comm manager and change to flight mode.
4. As soon as flight mode is on just click on Phone icon next to it. Looks like this keep data off but phone is on (as I wanted).
After this phone was responsive all the time (for now) and looks like data connection was off.

In order to turn all back, just repeat procedure in reverse order and soft reset at the end.

Some HTC Customizations

Here are some customizations that I use on my Touch.

Disabling XT9

Start registry editor and navigate to the key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Layouts\e0010409
Ime File=\windows\compime.dll
Layout Text=COMP IME

To Turn on again
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\Layouts\e0010409
Ime File=\windows\eT9Ime.dll
Layout Text=eT9 IME

This disables the HTC Keyboard. It is still in the dropdown list but only activates that qwerty style one that usually only pops up randomly.

Changing local weather on HTC Touch

I bought a HTC touch for New Year (Windows Mobile 6). It is fantastic device. My 3rd PPC, but first smart phone. It has half size of my previous PPC (Dell Axim x50v) and axim was half size of HP Jornada 430se. I like it :-) .

Anyway every device require some hacking. My town (Langley, BC) is close to Vancouver, but still I want to see as local as possible weather on touch home screen. Unfortunately, Langley is not in the list.

So, I hacked the registry to make the changes to the local weather display on the home screen. Here is the method:

 1.               Download a registry editor like Mobile Registry Editor which allows you to edit the registry from your PC using ActiveSync.

2.               Then go to:HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\HTC\HTCHome\Weather\Settings

3.               Change the location to “Langley, CA” and the loccode to “NAM|CA|BC|LANGLEY”

For HDD clean-up

If you are selling your computer you either want to wipe the hard drive completely, or destroy it and make the buyer get their own. But for those who need to sell the hard drive too, here is a free program that has 4 built in flavors of wiping your hard drive – or just individual files. It’s called Eraser, and its homepage is here:

http://www.heidi.ie/eraser/

Eraser uses 4 main algorithms that overwrite the data you tell it to. It will overwrite 1, 5, 7, or 35 times. The 1st option uses only random data to overwrite the data, the second and third options use a Department of Defense algorithm, and the last one uses the Gutmann method. It is one of the best methods out there to reduce the likelihood of data recovery.

Think out of box

If somebody says:“We have a problem because of this technology. If we implement another one, everything will be great”.Same person tomorrow will say:“We still have some minor problems. They are due that current version Y.XX lacking some key features. We expect that next version (technology) should solve them”. And day after tomorrow we will have same story…

Your problems are just 20% solvable by new technology. The 80% is hidden behind inability to think “out-of-box”.

Why Jungle Developer?

OK,

This is my first real post. With it I want to answer one question: Why name jungle developer?

First of all, I’m software developer (from there come from developer) and I work for some medium size corporation and there is everything “Jungle”. If you want to live, you need to survive jungle and all nasty animals and things that come with that.

Simple, right?
